  13. Hello Everyone:
  14.    I hear a lot of chatter about people thoroughly annoyed
  15. trying to compile TeX.  Well, worry no more.  I was in the
  16. same boat and after a great deal of trouble, I managed to
  17. compile a copy on a SPARCstation IPX running SunOS 4.1.3.
  18.  
  19.    Now here is the good bit.  I have done all but the
  20. "make install-exec" part of the instructions for the web2c-6.0
  21. directory hierarchy and then used tar to save it as an archive
  22. file called "web2c-for-SPARC-IPX.tar.gz".  When unpacked, it
  23. takes up almost 29 Mb.  The packed archive is located in the
  24. directory called "/pub/To-guest" in the host whose address is
  25. 128.147.192.18.  Log in as an anonymous user.

  27.    What you need to do it this...
  28.  
  29.   (1) download lib-6.0.tar.gz and web2c-for-SPARC-IPX.tar.gz
  30.   (2) unpack lib-6.0.tar.gz
  31.   (3) go to /usr/local/lib in your local host
  32.   (4) type "cat lib-6.0.tar.gz | gunzip | tar xvfB -" to
  33.          create the texmf hierarchy
  34.   (5) go to somewhere where there is at least 30 Mb of space
  35.          and type the following...
  36.         "cat web2c-for-SPARC-IPX.tar.gz | gunzip | tar xvfB -"
  37.   (6) go down to web2c-6.0
  38.   (7) type "make install-exec", etc.  Note that everything
  39.          will be loaded into /usr/local/bin.
